my decision to take the toefl was very sudden. and i registered 12 days before the actual exam. so without thinking, i went for a toefl subscription in magoosh (i already had a gre subscription, so i got a great discount). best decision ever. i never had a problem with my english, but had i not learned the test before my exam, i don't think i would've done very well. i started my prep about 10 days before the exam (i work full-time so i had only a couple of hours per day to spend). on day 1, i took a mock test and immediately took note of my weak sections - speaking and writing. from day 2, i focused on seeing the lessons provided on these two sections, while also dong more practices in reading and listening. the lessons were precise, short, and i learned a lot. i got nervous during the speaking section, but the magoosh pointers on how the speaking answers should be structured helped a lot. |

i had very little time to prepare for toefl and i only relied on magoosh. the online videos made it easy for me to watch and learn whenever i had time, be it middle of the night or at early dawn. the time bound practice questions not only helped me to get familiarized with the test, but the answer videos also highlighted the areas where i needed to improve. magoosh helped me to understand what the examiners are looking for in the answers and what criteria must be fulfilled to get a good score. the sample writings and speaking recordings were especially helpful in this regard. |

i just had about a week to take my toefl. i only used magoosh and three official tests material to prepare for my toefl. i really liked the practice questions - especially dense rc passages that were truly indicate of the real toefl passages. david has been my companion throughout my toefl preparation - he would go at length to answer my queries. he has been a great motivation and a guide. lucas video explanations were simply amazing. he would analyse the questions to the core - what elements of writing get tested on the toefl ( simple and complex grammar structures et al.). and every now and then i received emails from rachel asking about my progress on toefl. i just want to thank the entire team of magoosh. although, i did not feel confident after taking the toefl, my practice with representative toefl questions helped me to earn a score of 113 ( r-29, w-28,s -26 and w -30). |

in my view, magoosh toefl experience is made basically of three features: video explanations, exercises, and vocabulary flashcards. all of these were concisely implemented by a 2 month schedule, ideal for the time i had. however, the most important feature of magoosh toefl was the freedom. the schedule was sufficiently specific for me to not being idle, but not in a way of getting me bored. i didn't need to watch all the videos or solve all the problems, onyl focusing in my weaknesses. there was also a lot of interaction in the social medias regarding the test, with videos and posts. indeed, without magoosh toefl i wouldn't even reach my minimum score. |
