getting started with magoosh
in this video tutorial, you will learn how to set up your magoosh account in order to make studying a breeze. we will show you how to use your home screen to track your progress and determine which areas you need to pay attention to. we’ll guide you through using your dashboard to find our video lessons, and we’ll show you how to create custom practice sessions in order to test your knowledge. finally, we’ll show you how to review your answers and take a full practice test once you’re ready.
logging into your magoosh account
start by checking your email. once your account is created, you will receive two emails from help@www.catharsisit.com. the first one provides you with:- a link to the platform
- your login email address
- the date your account expires
the second email contains a password reset link, which you can use to create a password for your account. you will not receive this email if you already have a magoosh account. if you forget your password, you can always reset it at act.www.catharsisit.com/forgot_password or sat.www.catharsisit.com/forgot_password.
once you update your password, you will be automatically logged into your account.
setting up your account
click on edit account information at the bottom of your screen. we recommend that you fill in the following fields:- first name
- last name
- upcoming test date
- target score
- parent’s name
- parent’s email
click on update profile at the bottom of your screen to save your information.
your magoosh home screen
click on home to access the dashboard that will help you keep track of your progress.
my timeline
in this section, you will be able to set the dates and times when you would like to receive automatic reminders that it’s time to study.
- click on the pencil icon.
- select the days you would like to study.
- set your study length.
- click next.
- choose the time when you want to receive a reminder.
- type in your phone number.
- optional: click on the checkbox if you don’t want to receive study reminders.
- click on start studying.
my test date
here, you will be able to keep track of your upcoming test date, as well as your target score.
assignments due soon
this section will list your upcoming assignments. here are the steps you need to take in order to submit your assignments:
- click on go to assignments.
- select the upcoming assignment.
- complete a set of tasks for the selected assignment.
- click on submit assignment at the bottom of your screen.
my performance
this section will allow you to see your estimated scores, which will automatically update based on the questions you answer on the platform.
tips & strategies
this section contains helpful tips and strategy video tutorials.
resources
you can find a list of great resources here that will help you study more efficiently.
mobile apps
download our mobile apps in order to study on your phone or tablet. your progress will be saved on all your devices as long as you’re logged into your magoosh account.
ready to start studying?
click on any of the sections at the top of your screen to start studying.
example: reading
once you’ve answered at least 75 questions in this section, you will be able to see the statistics that will help you track your progress at the top of your screen.
these are your estimated score, your number of questions answered, and your average question pace.
reading lessons
as you scroll down, you will notice the lesson videos on the left side of your screen. click on one of the links to get started.
we have provided captions and video transcripts to accompany the video lessons, so that you can focus on the learning method that works for you. use the notes section to type study notes that you can refer back to at any time. as you’re watching the lessons, you will occasionally see short quizzes that will check your understanding of the concepts.
click on mark this lesson as finished and scroll down to get started with the next lesson when you’re ready.
use the help button on the bottom right of your page to send any questions about the lesson you might have to our academic support team.
testing your knowledge
navigate back to the reading section. on the right side of your screen, you will find our custom practice section. here, you can:- set a filter for questions based on the number of tasks and time.
- the practice mode lets you see the explanations after each section.
- the quiz mode hides the explanations until the practice session ends.
you will most likely use the practice mode for your daily studying. click on start the session to begin.
the reading passage will appear on the left side on your screen, and the question will be on the right side. click on the flag icon to flag a question if you need to refer back to it later.
select your answer and click on submit answer. the right answer will appear immediately. if you answered correctly, there will be a green checkmark next to the answer you selected.
scroll down to see a result summary that includes explanations, related lessons, and a your notes section.
reviewing your answers
navigate back to the practice question screen in the reading section. here you can choose to review your answers for all sections, or the reading section only.
click on review all sections. use the filters to review specific performance data. click on return to dashboard when you’re ready to continue.
practice tests
click on practice tests at the top of your dashboard. if possible, set aside some time to complete the practice test in one sitting. if you’re unable to, the platform will save your progress after each section.
