hi dylan,

first, congrats on taking the sat! that’s awesome 😀

good question! according to collegeboard (the writers of the sat), for gridding-in answers,

“unless a problem indicates otherwise, answers can be entered on the grid as a decimal or a fraction.”

so your answer as a decimal is totally valid. on the other hand, writing 57.1 would not have been correct unless the question asked for the probability in the form of a percent. in that case, the “units” would have been percent so 57.1 and not 0.571 would have been the correct answer.

i hope this clears up your doubts! for more on what types of answers are acceptable on for gridding-in answers, definitely check out collegeboard’s page on the math section 🙂

and one of the questions on the grid in section
(i won’t be too specific, don’t want to accidentally invalidate
my score by talking about this question)
asked for the probability of something happening.
i got the answer, but i wasn’t sure what way to put it down.
let’s hypothetically say i got 4/7 as my answer. since the
question asked for a probability, i wasn’t sure if i should put
it in fractional form (4/7), decimal form (.571), or percent
form (57.1, excluding the percent sign).
i ended up putting it in decimal form.
but i’m still not sure what they were looking for, don’t they
usually specify what form they want the answer in?
for this question, i just had to assume they accepted all forms
of the answer.

when they ask for a probability, will they accept any form
i write my answer in, unless instructed otherwise, or am
i supposed to only write it in percent form, or some other
form of expressing the answer?
