2^n > 10^15
> (2*5)^15
> (2^15) * (5^15)
> (2^15) * (5^3)^5

lets look at the options now
a)30 2^30 ==> (2^15) * (2^15)
==> (2^15) * (2^3)^5

(2^3)^5 < (5^3)^5 # 8^5 (2^15) * (2^30)
==> (2^15) * (2^6)^5

(2^6)^5 < (5^3)^5 # 64^5 (2^15) * (2^45)
==> (2^15) * (2^7)^5

(2^7)^5 > (5^3)^5 # 128^5 > 125^5

so n=60 is the least value of n that satisfy the above inequality.

d)75 can be ignored.
e)90 can be ignored.

comment on mock awa issue essay by magoosh expert //www.catharsisit.com/gre/mock-awa-issue-essay/#comment-2650415 fri, 18 aug 2023 14:01:00 +0000 //www.catharsisit.com/gre/?p=10665#comment-2650415 in reply to iris.

hi iris!

we’re sorry about the broken link–it’s just been updated, so you can now see the full pool of issue topics from the article, and i’ll link it here too!

the task you’re referring to from the previous blog post is not the same one this article discusses, since the prompt chris refers to here starts with “in any field of inquiry…”

this sample essay refers to “artists” because the prompt is asking about “any field of inquiry.” next, the essay does have an introduction, which is this: “while many accomplishments build on existing knowledge, many significant breakthroughs result from those who have completely broken with tradition. clearly then, significant breakthroughs do not always build upon existing knowledge.” after this introduction, it goes on to the first body paragraph, so viewing it this way should be more in line with the structure you’re accustomed to.

finally, all essays need examples. however, they also have to explicitly provide analysis of the prompt. what chris says in the analysis of this essay is that it includes many examples, but it could also include more analysis.

hope this helps, and happy studying! 😀

thanks for sharing this great sample essay – really insightful.

i had a couple of questions about the prompt and the essay.

1) i’m not sure what the exact prompt was, since the link to the ets issue essay pool is broken. but i found a statement that may have been the prompt in the previous blog post, which is the following:

even the most radical breakthroughs in science result from questioning—and sometimes subverting—past achievements.

here it says “science,” but the mock essay also uses artists as an example. does this mean that when we see “science” in the prompt, we can safely assume that this also includes “art”, and use examples from the art world?

2) the essay does not have an introduction – is this okay?

3) the structure of the model essay seems unconventional to me, since i have been working on gre essays with the aim of having one intro, 2-3 body paragraphs, and then a conclusion. the essay does not have an introduction – is this forgivable for gre graders? also, as you indicated already, the essay is example-driven. i think we do need to write example-driven essays for some essay prompts – do you have any tips on how to identify these kinds of prompts where we need to write more about examples?

thank you in advance!
