q: what were you doing pre-magoosh?

a: before magoosh, i was living in tokyo working for a big e-commerce company. i was out there for 2.5 years doing analyst work and handling several of their digital ad channels for their global site. it was an amazing experience to live and work in japan but the work culture really wasn’t for me. i ended up getting a job offer here at magoosh and decided it was time to move back to the states. that was a few months ago and i’ve been here since.

q: what does your day-to-day look like here?

a: my typical day in the office starts with me arriving at around 10:30 am. i usually spend the morning going through emails and checking through daily reports to make sure nothing catastrophic has happened. i go to lunch around noon and then play some smash brothers in the office after lunch until about 1:00 pm. in the afternoons, i typically have a call or two with a vendor where we talk about new initiatives we can try and adjustments we’d like made. i typically take a quick 15-20 minute power nap around 2:30 pm. afterwards, i spend the rest of my day finding ways to improve things. this might mean looking into an idea to improve performance of a specific ad campaign, or it might involve looking at a tools that can help us get a better overall picture to evaluate performance.

q: what gets you fired up about education?

a: i really love working in edtech because i think education is a really useful tool in empowering people and really leveling the playing field. knowing that the work i do helps people achieve their goals is incredibly rewarding for me and really helps to keep me excited about coming in to work every day.

q: got any crazy hobbies or interests the world should know about?

a: nothing too crazy. i love to snowboard and i’ve been to all the major areas in japan while i lived there. the snow in hokkaido is unreal. if you have the chance, i highly recommend that you go. you don’t even need to worry about japanese. other than that, i’ve been a lifelong gamer. started with super mario bros and duck hunt when i was two and i’ve been hooked ever since.

q: what’s your favorite part about working at magoosh?

a: the best part for me about working at magoosh has been the people. speaking for myself personally, coming from a very cold, corporate, and political workplace to magoosh has been an incredibly positive experience. everyone here at magoosh is so passionate about helping our students which is really infectious and helps to make work that much more enjoyable.
